Digital Transformation & the PMO
Digital transformation is nothing new, consumer requirements are constantly evolving, and companies are keeping up with varying degrees of success. Delivery methods are adapting and being customised as the pace of development is accelerating. Shareholders and Board members maintain more traditional requirements within these disruptive landscapes. ROI and sensible decision making around strategic synergy, risk exposure and asset utilisation still need to be demonstrated. Internal/external audit and governing body requirements continue. We need to plan to support this creativity in our own creative way. As PMO professionals how do we bring this together?
Survive or Thrive - Evolving the PMO
It’s not unusual for PMO to lag behind Project Management evolution; however, it’s now to the point that it is no longer delivering its intended value. Smart organisations understand that proven project management practices lead to greater success and less waste. Likewise, better facilitation of governance can do the same. Delivery methods are adapting and being customised as the pace of development is accelerating. We need to plan to support this creativity in our own creative way. When PMOs can pivot and align to the executive, PMO’s will become leaner as they flourish. No longer will we be trying to fill the gaps of inadequate technology, process and organisation. Instead as businesses become leaner, we will be called on more and more to demonstrate success and provide excellence in business partnership and service.
Agile in the PMO
PMOs are not Agile in nature; they are often reactively driven by the needs of senior management. Their ability to pivot to the changing environment around them is often difficult, to say the least. As a PMO to do you want to have the ability to pivot to the changing environment? Ensuring you learn the ability to adapt to the evolution of delivery. I take you through the key elements of Agile Project Management and how the change in delivery styles is changing our roles in the PMO. We will look at using more of an Agile approach focused on solving problems using innovation, collaboration, and creativity and learn how to bring stakeholders on the journey.
Testimonials
I asked Fatimah Abbouchi from the Agile Management Office to come to my large team event to discuss how typical Project Management Office's were coping with the large scale industry change to Agile. She did a great presentation on where different industries were at, the learning's from how its been implemented, what individuals can do in the PMO to add value in their role as well as explain the true meaning of agile in the workforce. We thoroughly enjoyed her presentation and the helpful insights she had.
Stephen Quigley - NAB Bank, Australia
I should also mention that you had the most responses to the speaker survey and probably the best overall feedback. We also noted that there was an increased number of people dialing into your session.
Clive Enoch - Project Management South Africa
You had plenty of thank you messages written in the question function of the GoTo panel and I received approximately 20 emails from attendees saying how much they enjoyed the session so I am including “Survive or Thrive” in one of our more successful in 2019 – it really was a brilliant presentation and the rogue comments I received were very appreciated of your topic and style.
